Isoka is one of the eight (8) districts found in Muchinga Province of Zambia. Isoka is located at the far Eastern corner of the country between longitude 32˚ 29’ 0” and 33˚ 50’ 0” East and latitude 9˚ 45’ 0” and 10˚ 49’ 2” South. It covers an area of 4,665.91km² (466,591 Hectares) of which approximately 0.1 percent accounts for land under leasehold tenure, while 99.9 percent is under customary tenure.
The district shares international boundaries in the East with Malawi and also shares its administrative district boundary in the North with Nakonde, in the South with Chinsali and East with Mafinga and in the South-East with Chama District of Eastern Province. Isoka District is approximately 950km from Lusaka the Capital of Zambia, about 106 Km from Chinsali the Provincial headquarters and slightly over 110km from the nearest Tanzanian town of Tunduma.
Traditionally, the district has two (2) main Chiefdoms namely: Chief Kafwimbi and; Chief Katyetye. The Chiefs play an important role in the mobilization of their subordinates for developmental projects. The main tribes in the district are Namwanga, Tumbuka, Nyika, Mfungwe, Lambya, Iwa, Tambo among others.
The township for the district falls within the Kafwimbi Chiefdom whose major tribe is Iwa headed by Chief Kafwimbi whilst the Tambo is the major tribe in Katyetye Chiefdom. The villages presided over by sub chiefs and headmen for Kafwimbi and Katyetye Chiefdoms.
Currently the District storage capacity is 11,392 Metric tonnes against the required 31,392 Metric tonnes. The District has one [1] major storage facility under the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) located within Isoka Town Area (Location Compound). The District also has three (3) slabs and storage sheds while another storage facility is under construction in Mweembe Village.The District also has Smaller sheds that belong to Cooperative Societies as follows: Shed at Mwika Co-operative Society and Shed at Tuta Co-operative Society (Update list)
In addition, Isoka District has benefited from the TRALARD Project were three (3) Bulking Centres are being constructed in Sansamwenje, Kampumbu and Mpandwa villages. However, there is still more that are needed in areas such as Milongo, Kanyala and Mpungu Wards.
